10 Nerdy Costume Ideas for Twins

alphinaudalisae

This year marks Amélie and Lucien’s first Halloween (!), and considering it’s one of my favorite holidays, I’ve been thinking A LOT about nerdy ideas for twin costumes–don’t worry, Cersei and Jamie Lannister didn’t make the list!

Naturally, my mind immediately went to nerdy options for our little ones. Some are choices we may go with now, others are a bit more mature and can be saved for later (like, much later). I’m still not sure what route we’re taking, but here’s some ideas I’ve thought up! All of them just as easily could be used for a Con, or for siblings close-ish in age if you don’t have twins. I’m also a big fan of being creative and gender-bending costumes, so really anything goes!

1. Luke and Leia, Star Wars

Top of the list–you knew this one was coming, I’m sure. But one simply cannot have a list of nerdy twin costumes and NOT include these beloved twins from a galaxy far, far away!

2. Zelda and Tetra, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

The first of quite a few cute Zelda ideas I’ve had (two made the list), I especially love this one–as Windwaker is my favorite Zelda game. Yes, I know, Zelda and her alter-ego aren’t twins, but (1) not every pairing on this list are twins and (2) it would still be super cute!!

3. Alphinaud and Alisae, Final Fantasy XIV

If you follow me on Instagram (check out my page if you don’t!), you know I love Final Fantasy XIV. These super talented elezen (aka elf) twins have been with us since the base game, A Realm Reborn, and are going stronger than ever with the release of Shadowbringers. One day we’ll make it to a FFXIV Fan Fest, and when we do–you can be sure we’ll be getting an adorable Alphinaud/Alisae cosplay going for Amélie and Lucien!

4. Mario and Luigi, 50% of Nintendo games (kidding….kind of)

The poster child of Nintendo and his lankier brother make for a classic and easy choice! Even the non-geeks in your family will recognize this one!

5. Fred and George, Harry Potter

Harry Potter was a defining part of my childhood, so this pairing was the second one that popped into my head–beaten out only by Luke and Leia. You can find Gryffindor robes at practically any costume shop, so if you’re not up to handcrafting a costume, this is another great option!

6. Peach and Daisy, also various Nintendo games (Daisy’s first appearance was in Super Mario Land)

Yet another pair of Nintendo classics, catch these two together in Smash Bros or Mario Kart. These two princesses would be perfect for fraternal twins or siblings with different hair colors (or one could always wear a wig)!

7. Dante and Vergil, Devil May Cry

Definitely more appropriate for older kids/teenagers, but I couldn’t resist including this half-demon duo! Given their backstories, Dante and Vergil are perfect for Halloween.

8. Link and Dark Link, The Legend of Zelda

Another entry from the Zelda series, I know. My mind immediately goes to Dark Link from Ocarina, but if you really want to channel the creeptastic vibes for Halloween, just think about that one disturbing Shadow Link cutscene from Twilight Princess (you know, that one).

9. Liquid Snake and Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid

Another amazing video game series, older twins can’t go wrong with this pair of identical brothers from Les Enfants Terribles Project. (Bonus points if the twin dressed up as Liquid follows Solid around musing, “BROTHERRR” in a condescending voice.)

10. Phantom Thief and Shujin Academy version of any character, Persona 5

In my recent post on some of the best relaxing video game music, I mentioned Persona 5 was my favorite video game I’ve played in the past few years, so it should be no surprise I figured out how to include it here as a cool option for twin costumes!! Whether you and your twins are a fan of Joker, Futaba, Yusuke, or any other awesome Shujin student turned Phantom Thief, there are lots of choices!
